Intellectual Property refers to a protection system for the creations of the mind including but not limited to Trademarks, Copyright, Industrial designs, Patents and Trade Secrets. It offers exclusive rights to the author or owner to ownership of the IP. Ownership will safeguard the creator from infringement and the right to sue and claim for compensation from any potential infringer. Relevant IP rights to an SME/Startup are Trademarks, Patents, Utility models, Trade Secrets and Industrial designs. Each one of these offer different IP protection respectively.
